Neuenhammer Castle Neuenhammer Castle has only borne its name since 1678. In the 14th century, the hammer settlement was still called Ödenmühl (or Öd Mühl) and presumably originated from the clearing of the Waldsassen Monastery. The hammer mill was powered by the waters of the Zottbach stream. Neuenhammer Castle was located on the old military road, the early medieval route from Sulzbach via Luhe to Tachau in Bohemia. Ulrich der Trautenberger and Konrad Alhart, citizens of Amberg, were hammer masters of Ödenmühl in 1347. In 1387, Konrad Hirssel and his Ödenmühl hammer mill joined the Upper Palatinate Hammer Union. The hammer mill remained with the respective lords of Waldthurn. The last of these was the Imperial Princes of Lobkowitz. In 1733, they sold the hammer mill to Georg Niklas Frank. His heirs owned the hammer mill until 1833, followed by the Rath family. The former Hammer Castle is a two-story, hipped-roof building. The roof features several dormer windows. The structure has five or three axes. The central, projecting tower is covered by an onion dome and stands on two round columns. It bears the inscription "18 FF 08" (FF is an abbreviation of the name of the then owner, Franz Frank). The core of the building dates back to the 17th century.
