Plön Castle is one of the largest castles in Schleswig-Holstein and the only one preserved at an elevated location. It is located in the town of Plön in the district of the same name. The former residence of the Dukes of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Plön was built in the 17th century during the Thirty Years' War. It has had a turbulent history, serving, among other things, as a cadet school and boarding school. Most recently owned by the state of Schleswig-Holstein, Plön Castle was sold due to the state's inability to finance necessary renovations. Since January 2002, it has belonged to the "Fielmann Academy Plön Castle" and, following extensive renovations, serves the optics and hearing aid industry as a training and qualification center. After the castle had been closed to the public for many years due to the boarding school, the new owner opened it to a limited number of visitors. Wonderful location on the lake. Lots of old forest and magnificent avenues.

On the lake side of Plön Castle, Fritz During's Large Sitting in the Sun is squatting on a large boulder. The seated female nude presents the figure with bent legs crossed and arms crossed over the head. The face is turned sideways, upwards, towards the sun. In addition to the sensual, relaxed depiction, the formal structure is particularly important here - the beauty of the lines that the eye can follow. Just like Fritz During's "Pan." Completely incomprehensible to me: What must be going through the mind of the person who smeared the "Seated Woman"?

This figure stands directly in front of the gates of the castle.

Beautiful, leisurely route through nature

Today only the round foundation wall of the Bothkamp historical observatory can be seen. Built in 1869 by landowner Friedrich Gustav von Bülow it was operated until 1914.
