Vogelsburg is a wasteland in the Volkacher district of Escherndorf in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen. The center of the district is the Vogelsburg monastery complex. This place was already inhabited in the Paleolithic period and was subsequently used as a settlement site by various cultures. In the Bronze Age, the prominent spot on the Main loop was converted into a fortification. With the Frankish settlement in the 5th century AD, the fortifications were further expanded and converted into a royal court.[3] The property was given away in the 9th century and the recipient was the Fulda Monastery. The 11th century saw another change of ownership when the rising Counts of Castell took over the castle. Count Hermann zu Castell converted the complex into a monastery for the Carmelite Order in 1282. During the German Peasants' War in 1525, the buildings suffered so much that the monastery was from then on co-administered from Würzburg. With secularization it came into private hands in 1803 and became part of the Escherndorf district. Towards the end of the 19th century, the mountain and the monastery complex began to attract more and more tourists from nearby Würzburg. The Vogelsburg, which was part of the Gerolzhofen district office, received its own stop on the Mainschleifenbahn, which was closed again in 1922. Sommerach is a municipality in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen and a member of the Volkach administrative community. I particularly liked the route from Nordheim to Sommerach and back. Vineyards everywhere and in the most beautiful colors in autumn. The little town of Sommerach is also very charming. All the outdoor areas of the pubs were beautifully set and the inner courtyards of the winegrowers were beautifully decorated for autumn. Unfortunately, you can't drink a 'Schöpple' everywhere :-)

The Vogelsburg monastery is a former monastery in the Escherndorf district of the Lower Franconian town of Volkach in the Diocese of Würzburg, in the midst of the Franconian vineyard landscape. The monastery was built in the 13th century on an area where Vogelsburg Castle had stood centuries before.
