Shortcut to Heidingsfeld Carry up, carry down

The Käppele, or also: Capuchin Monastery Nikolausberg, can be seen from the Marienberg Fortress and can also be reached in about 2km. The ascent takes place over many old stairs in several "floors" / stations... almost meditatively. There are tall trees, apostle sculptures and benches in the shade on each new floor. The view from the top is beautiful!

The "Käpple" is a beautiful church, just grandiose inside, from the outside you have a great view of Würzburg, the Main Valley and the Marienberg Fortress.

In the winter months (until the end of March) the Hofgarten is only open until 5 p.m.

In 1945 the fortress burned down almost completely, and reconstruction lasted until 1990. The Marienkirche, whose origins go back to the year 706 AD, the 40 m high keep and the well house with the over 100 m deep cistern are impressive testimonies to the more than 1000-year history of the Marienberg Fortress.
