Very nice to drive

The actual destination today was the Hofcafe Reinkenhoff. After strengthening ourselves with the ingenious, homemade cake, we headed home. Since, as always, the Lippetaler Fahrradthon took place on the 2nd Sunday in August, we were able to see Haus Assen up close. It is otherwise only accessible on special occasions (see www.haus-assen.de).

Beautiful castle 🏰 definitely worth visiting

The "Borch to Assen", which already existed in the 11th century, belonged to the Amtshof Honsel an der Lippe, which Emperor Heinrich II gave to the Abdinghof monastery in Paderborn in 1023. In 1384 Röttger received the castle as a fief from Ketteler. The property was divided in 1455. In 1564, Laurenz von Brachum built the Neu-Assen house south of the castle on behalf of Goswin von Ketteler; his brother lived in the old castle.

Super quality honey

Overhagen Castle in the district of the same name in today's city of Lippstadt goes back to medieval forerunners. The current building was built in 1619 in the Lipper Renaissance style and expanded in baroque style in the 18th century.

Gut Assen is privately owned and cannot be entered. But only the archway with the drawbridge can be seen. From the estate, a path leads around the associated facilities, because passage is also prohibited.
