The market square in Warendorf is a fascinating place with a rich history! Surrounded by beautiful, well-preserved patrician houses, this place tells of the prosperity of the Warendorf bourgeoisie, which shaped the city through textile production and trade until the 19th century. Here, in the shadow of the Laurentius Church, the city began to develop. Important markets were held here as early as 1232, and even today you can still see the traces of history - through street names such as Heumarkt, Schweinemarkt and Krickmarkt, which testify to the traditional trading activities The town hall: A distinctive building with Gothic elements that not only hosts council meetings, but also weddings and events. Gabled houses: On the east side of the market square you will find numerous beautiful gabled houses, including the impressive house no. 4 from 1631, which is reminiscent of the architecture of Münster's Prinzipalmarkt. Löwenapotheke: The most beautiful house on the north side of the market square has housed the city's oldest pharmacy since 1616, which impresses with its impressive stepped gable. A chic village with ambiance........... Gimbte is a district south of Greven. This small, idyllic village with around 900 inhabitants is a must-see on any bike tour towards Münster. The historic town center, with its typical Münsterland restaurants, is particularly beautiful. It's a perfect place to stop for a bite to eat. The expanded Ems is a river with obstacles for migrating fish and other aquatic organisms. Drops in the river bed and dams such as the historic dams in Telgte impair the river's continuity and segment the water. In Telgte, the "Dümmert" branches off from the main Ems as a tributary. Both stretches of water are interrupted by the dams of former mills and, with a height difference of around 2.5 meters, represent an insurmountable obstacle to the migration of fish striving upstream. To change this, a fish ladder, or "fish ladder" for short, was built for the first time in 2000 at the Kleiner-Ems-Weir in Telgte. In the area of the "Dümmertinsel", which is surrounded by the two arms of the Ems and is now used as a city park, a 140-meter-long, near-natural bypass channel was created.
