The observation tower belonging to the original Schell-Pyrmont Castle was built in 1824 by the sovereign Prince Georg Friedrich of Waldeck-Pyrmont and is thus one of the oldest observation towers in a spa town.

Very nice, well-kept facility, although privately owned. I thought the black swans were worth seeing.

Beautiful grounds, quite large park. At the beginning of the park, there is a very long incline that only ends outside of the town.

<< Schwalenberg Town Hall >> "The Schwalenberg Town Hall, with its richly carved facade, is an important example of the half-timbered architecture of the Weser Renaissance. The current building complex consists of four parts: The gable-fronted core building from 1579 was extended on the left side in 1603 by an extension with the council chamber. In 1853, an extension made of quarry stone masonry was added to the rear, while in 1907/08 an extension was added on the right side. The facade facing the street consists of a projecting, carved gable with round-arch openings on the ground floor. The arbor-like arch position suggests that it was used as an open market hall. The parapets of the core building are decorated with fan rosettes, lacing rolls, coats of arms, Justitia, lion and griffin. Low German inscriptions with religious and secular content can be found on the threshold beams. The castle was built in 1690 by the Lippe court official Lewin Moritz von Donop as the owner after a previous Renaissance-style building was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War. It was built in the style of Dutch classicism. The stairway to the castle was demolished in 1720 after a fatal fall; the ditches were filled up in 1870.
