The castle complex has been partly preserved, partly rebuilt, or replaced by other buildings. Teaching events are held here, there's a small open-air theater, a playground, a café open on weekends, and a terrace with a magnificent view.

The climb up the tower is definitely worth it for the view. As an alternative to the gastronomy, there is also a shelter for the break, but on the benches in front of the restaurant you can sit in the sun even when it is closed. Anyone who walks the Hermannsweg is roughly half-time here :-)

From the parking lot it's about 700 m high, although steep, but it's worth it ... you can also sit in the café above ...

<< Castle of the Counts of Ravensberg >> "... High up on a hilltop in the Teutoburg Forest, a mighty tower peeps out from behind thick trees. Whoever climbs up to the thick sandstone walls will recognize the fortified tower with its thirty battlements and the old curtain wall. The impressive building from the 11th century Ravensburg in the Ravensberger Land, where arguments, battles and conquests took place: Hermann II von Cavelage, Count of Ravensberg, built the castle as a military base in order to secure his dominion in 1080. For many years the fortress was the target of attacks and many famous lords of the castle sought protection behind the strong walls in the course of history, but it was not the onslaught of enemies but the order of King Wilhelm I that finally brought the castle to a "collapse." In 1733 he had all the buildings demolished in order to build new houses out of the stones . ...
