In 1908, the "Taube Elbe", an old branch of the Elbe, was transformed into a lake. This lake was named after the financier of the project, Adolf Mittag. Mittag belonged to a Magdeburg merchant family that became rich through trading in trimmings (decorative elements for refining textiles). The Marieninsel was created in the middle of the lake, on which a small temple was built. Beautiful route along the Prester See, unfortunately the water level is often very low despite the inflow of the Elbe.

A campsite the way I like it, inexpensive, lake with fantastically clean water, nice people and there is always something going on even on weekends.

At the Adolf-Mittag-See there is a boat rental at fair prices. You can drive along the fountain or take a rest on one of the surrounding benches. There is also a pavilion on a small island. Definitely worth a visit.👍

From the lake to the breathtaking buildings of the waterway junction Elbe / Mittellandkanal on the magnificent Elbe Cycle Route in the direction of Magdeburg. Back on the tram, because it was very late in Magdeburg.

The lake was artificially created between 1906 and 1908 by widening the Tauben Elbe, a branch of the Elbe. The funds for this project (50,000 marks) were provided by the Magdeburg industrialist and patron Adolf Mittag, which is why the lake got its name. On the south side of the lake is the Marieninsel named after the wife Mittags with the Venus temple. Promenade paths lead around the lake. At the lake there is a rental of rowing and pedal boats, with which, depending on the water level, the adjacent arms of the Elbe can also be navigated. From the beer garden to the west of the lake, a flight of stairs leads to the lake shore. From 2006 to 2008, the lake was extensively renovated for 1.7 million euros and the fresh water supply improved. This had become necessary because of the consequences of the Elbe flood of 2002 and the progressive silting up. Source: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adolf-Mittag-See

WATER TREATMENT IN THE OSTFALEN TECHNOLOGY PARK TODAY FISHING AND RECREATION PURPOSES Quarry in operation until mid-20th century Tucked away and surrounded by shrubbery, the walker in the Ostfalen Technology Park finds a lake about the size of a soccer field. It is a former quarry in which greywacke was mined until the middle of the 20th century. The rock was mainly used in road construction as paving material. The greywacke was extracted from its naturally grown deposit. The open pit was sometimes up to 22 meters deep. After decommissioning the pit was filled with water and the quarry lake was created. Also in the area existed several small breaks, so in Ebendorf on the road to Barleben. In Ebendorf's coat of arms, two quarry walls still symbolize decades of greywacke mining. Three wavy lines represent the water with which the quarries have been filled since their decommissioning. The term greywacke was once coined by Harz miners. He is occupied since 1780. After its original locality Bad Harzburg the rock is also called Harzburgit. "Wacke" is by the way an outdated name for Wackersteine and "Grau" stands for the dark gray color of the rock.
