In 1750, linden branches were tied together to form a ring that still surrounds the two trees today. Because of the increasing weight of the horizontal branches, two concentric rows of pillars were set up in 1789 to support the ring. The pillars made of grey sandstone were supplied by the stonemason Ankenbrand from Falkenstein, who was paid 40 guilders by the municipality. In 2006, according to the 7th Environmental Protection Report of the Haßberge District Office 2001-2006, the Turkish linden tree was classified as not worthy of being a natural monument and was removed from the list of natural monuments.
