The church stands on a formerly fortified hill above the town. Access is via a staircase that was built in 1741. The two-storey choir tower was begun in 1107, the diamond roof dates from 1741. The vaulted choir from the 14th century is attached to it. Wall paintings from around 1420 have been preserved (a cycle of apostles, female saints). The ceiling paintings from the 16th century, which have been converted to baroque style, show angels with instruments of suffering and musical instruments. The Catholic Church of St. Wigbert/St. Lioba in Schornsheim is actually the remainder of the former Schornsheim church, namely the tower (lower part ca. 1107) and the former choir (ca. 1380). This is where St. Lioba spent the last days of her life before her death in 782. Anyone entering the church, which appears rather inconspicuous and squat from the outside, is surprised by the harmony and colorfulness of this church space. All of the walls, the window reveals and the vault are covered with medieval frescoes that were rediscovered under layers of whitewash in 1910 and then restored. Particularly famous are the angels playing music, which appear sculpturally as console figures and then as a painted musical combo between the ribs of the cross vault. In the cemetery on Friedrich-Ebert-Straße there is a memorial for the fallen of the two world wars. It depicts three mourning figures (wife with child and mother of the fallen/missing) on a flat base. The names of the fallen/missing are recorded on six steles. Inscriptions: 1914/18 1939/45 DID NOT RETURN

Not quite as inviting, but then again, no one is likely to be barbecuing here in December.

Wetland biotope "Eisweiher" The area around the pond is beautiful and the pond is currently well filled with water. As its name suggests, the ice used to be broken in winter for cooling purposes. "Eisweiher is a generic term for smaller, usually relatively shallow bodies of still water that freeze quickly in a favorable location and with appropriate weather conditions.
