The lookout tower on the Schmidberg is one of Betzenstein's landmarks. From here you have a great panoramic view of the city and countryside. The steel, 12m high Schmidberg tower is 530m high and is the central point of the Schmidberg complex. You have a fantastic view over the small town with the protestant baroque church from the 18th century and the listed houses around it.

In the Middle Ages, the castles Leienfels, Bärnfels, Obertrubach, Egloffstein and Thuisbrunn communicated and warned each other by means of beacons that were lit here. This type of warning system was used until the 19th century, including with flashing signals. The vegetation was probably a bit sparse there.

The Western Wall, a traditional bouldering rock, is a great 7 meter high practice wall for climbers and well worth seeing, the Signalstein (582 m) is known as a striking lookout rock and offers a viewing platform on the rock. A steep staircase leads to the rock colossus so that there is no view (as of 05/2021), something should be cut out here.

Rothenberg Fortress is a former fortress on the 588 m high mountain of the same name. Access is only possible with a guided tour, but this is worthwhile and takes about 35 minutes. From the fortress you have a great view of the surrounding area and of more distant places, e.g. the wind turbines in Schweinfurt, 122km away. Unfortunately, the circular route offers hardly any views of the fortress and no view either.
