The Kaisertal stretches eastwards from Kufstein in the Lower Inn Valley and separates the Wilder Kaiser in the south from the Zahmer Kaiser in the north.

Somewhat hidden between the Kaisertal valley and Kufstein's city mountain lies a cave, the Tischofer Cave. This moderately difficult hike covers approximately 250 meters of elevation gain on some narrow trails. You can take a circular hike from Kufstein, which takes about 1.5 hours, or you can combine the hike with the path to the Kaisertal valley, from where there's a branch. This is what we did: From Kufstein, we climbed the Kaiseraufstieg trail and, on the way back from our Kaisertal hike, we descended to the Tischofer Cave. Scientists have found the remains of 380 bears here. They lived in the cave above Kufstein. The cave, which is approximately 40 meters long, 20 meters wide at the entrance, and 8.5 meters high, was used by animals in the Stone Age, as excavated bone remains attest. Cave bear bones predominate, with 380 specimens, while foxes (12), ibex (9), wolves (6), reindeer (3), cave hyenas (2), and cave lions (1), chamois, and marmots (1) each are represented. Some animals were hunted by humans. The finds of tools from The cave can be reached on foot from the Kaiseraufstieg in the Kaisertal valley via a path secured with a wire railing. It is registered in the Tyrolean cave register under number 1312/001. Simply impressive

...very steep ascent, a head for heights and surefootedness are necessary - a short climbing passage (approx. UIAA II) and a 6m long rock gap (the so-called "Eye of God") as well as a somewhat airy climbing passage lead to the rarely visited summit...

The cave is also a setting for science. Scientists took a closer look at the cave 400 years ago. It was found that humans left 37,000-year-old bone tips here that were processed. Skeletons of 380 bears that lived here in the cave were also found. If you want to know more about it, you can view the finds as exhibits at Kufstein Fortress. Take some time to marvel at the Tischofer Cave! There is also a bench in the sun in front of the cave. Good for a break. (https://www.kufstein-altstadt.com/tischofer-hoehle/)

Super nice climb through a small cave and then from the back. Views of the Inn Valley, the water wall and the Samerberg are wonderful

Thank you @Niklas for the detailed description, I should have read that before taking the descent via the "South Route" last Friday. I didn't think anything of it and finally noticed that the descent is only via Schrofenkletterei, a somewhat tricky slab crossing and a final short 5-meter UIAA II point where you have to hold on to the rock on the right in the direction of descent. Luckily the handles are very good, so I was able to climb down "without any problems". Definitely an experience I didn't have in mind. If you want less adrenaline, you can descend again on the north side, which is not without its steepness (T4+ to T5-). On that day I also had the Maiwand in my bones, I found it even easier :D

The Way of the Cross, which was built in 1733/1734, with its 15 stations has largely been preserved in its original state. Thus the beaver is one of the first stations of the cross in Bavaria. This is laid out in the shape of a horseshoe, with the individual stations being represented in the form of chapels. What is unusual is that the resurrection of Christ was included in the Way of the Cross. The early baroque pilgrimage church of St. Maria Magdalena with its Stations of the Cross is located on the Biber in Brannenburg. The church, which is oriented to the southwest and not, as usual, to the east, was built by a local hermit during the Thirty Years War and has remained largely unchanged to this day. The Magdalenenkirche emerged from a hermitage with a chapel and is in the middle of a forest meadow. The now neo-Gothic church impresses with altar figures about one meter in size. The crucifix is probably part of the original equipment from 1630. A little below the church there are naturally formed rock caves. These used to be used by the hermits as additional prayer rooms. Settlement of the Biberhöhe has been proven until the early 19th century. The last hermit died in 1813.

Description of the southern route: A completely unsecured variant that moves in the difficulty level UIAA II - II+. An option for all those who are not challenged by scrambling over the normal route. BUT: absolute surefootedness, climbing experience and a head for heights are a must here. Not a safe undertaking. But they could have fun here. Comparable in difficulty to the Klammgrabengrat on the Eschenloher Heldenkreuz or the final ascent of the Arnplattenspitze. Just a lot longer than the two. Also important is the crossing over a narrow rock ledge, with a few good grips, about 10 hm after the entry. You mustn't miss it, otherwise you'll end up in a dead end, which can only be exited again by a really dangerous downhill climbing manoeuvre. A little more demanding than the water wall, the Kindelwand is still a real highlight on the tour. The passage cave in particular is something rather unusual and should be seen. But it doesn't work without scrambling. Information about the tour: https://www.adventtour.net/post/vier-gipfel-am-samerberg-gratwandern-klettersteig-freiklettern

The approx. 40m long, 20m wide and 9m high Tischofer cave is known for its Stone Age bone finds, including tools and spear tips (Lautscher tip). These are dated to be around 27,000 and 28 years old, making them the oldest human products to date discovered in Tyrol. The animal bones come from, among other things, cave bears, foxes, wolves, cave hyenas and cave lions. The Tischofer cave was also used in the Bronze Age, as evidenced by finds from human bones. There is evidence of additions and landfills from the Straubinger period, as well as copper and bronze were processed here. The much smaller and inconspicuous hyena cave in front of the east brought out coarse house ceramics from the early Bronze Age Straubing culture as well as a wind nozzle of a melting furnace. The Tischofer cave naturally lost importance as a living space over the centuries, but was not forgotten. During the Napoleonic Wars, it was used by insurgent locals as a weapon hiding place and secret meeting place. The finds can be viewed today in the Kufstein Fortress and City Museum, the Tischofer Cave is a popular starting point for hikers and is freely accessible. https://www.festung.kufstein.at/de/festungs-und-heimatmuseum.html
