The romantic Vichtenstein Castle is located in the center of Vichtenstein, just a few meters from the Donausteig. Today the castle is owned by the Schulz-Wulkow family, who also live there. The castle cannot be visited!

Vichtenstein Castle rises clearly above the Danube valley in the Sauwald in Upper Austria in the municipality of Vichtenstein, opposite the Obernzell market in Lower Bavaria.

Legend of the mermaid Lilofee The legend of the mermaid Lilofee is entwined around the water tower of Falkenstein: Othmar der Oberhaimer is said to have fallen in love with a beautiful woman on the way back from the Imperial Palace on the Rhine, but she was a mermaid. She was willing to move with him to his castle, but only on the condition that she was allowed to spend every full moon night alone in the water tower. That went well for a long time, until envious people urged Othmar to see what his wife was doing in the tower. Curious, he crept to the tower and peered in through a crack in the door.
