A great vantage point on the Danube.

The chain tower (Lauerturm, Räuberturm) in Untermühl served as a toll tower in the 14th century. A chain was stretched across the Danube, preventing ships from continuing their journey. They were only allowed to continue their journey after paying the toll.

From the former moated castle from the 16th and 17th centuries, only the massive gate tower and the arcades in the courtyard have been preserved in their original form. The castle was plundered by Soviet soldiers in 1945 and was occupied by Russian soldiers until 1953. Due to the severe damage, the building had to be completely renovated. It was rebuilt and has been a retirement home since 1959.

In the summer of 2013, in cooperation with the tourism association and the market town of St. Martin i. M. and owner Dr. Plapart the chain tower revitalized. A free-standing viewing platform was installed inside the ruins, creating the DONAUBLICK KETTENTURM. The tourist investment, 50% of which is funded by the EU as a leader project, can be visited and climbed at any time.

The buildings are quite nondescript for a castle, but the garden with its artistically trimmed bushes and trees is worth a photo.

In the castle there is a small church where mass is held every Thursday and Sunday. In addition, the beautiful ambience in the castle courtyard is often used for weddings.
