The Markbachjoch is located at 1500 meters altitude. The ride with the 8-person gondola takes only 8 minutes. Various walks start from the mountain station. From here one can already see the Rosskopf and also the Feldalphorn mountain. For those who want to take a short walk, a walk to the small Markbachjoch church (Markbachjochkapelle) is a good option. The Markbachjoch offers a wonderful view of the valley of the Wildschönau, the Wilder Kaiser with its steep mountains and the Rofan Mountains. At the starting point of the "Flugschule Wildschönau" there are usually many paragliders to see. "Fly2" also offers tandem flights from the Markbachjoch. In addition, a stage of the Tyrol Mountain Bike Safari crosses here and there are even more opportunities for cycling. ... the Kala Alm (1,426 m) in beautiful Austria on the Thiersee is a "jewel" among the huts. It takes about 60 minutes to get there, whether in summer or winter; in winter you can also go sledding. The view on site: a dream. The beautiful restaurant is a visual, culinary and (!) price highlight. Yes, I know. Only words of praise. But: it really is like that. I have been there several times myself (January 31, 2020, February 25, 2020, September 19/20, 2020, September 9/10, 2022); also with an overnight stay. The food (including schnitzel, cheese dumplings, apple strudel, Kaiserschmarr'n) was simply delicious. Just under 100 euros for 2 people in a double room with (!) a super-class, wonderful breakfast; the room was small, fine and just great. The Kala Alm is often and happily "booked" for events and/or weddings; the beautiful and cozy atmosphere is just amazing. You can see how much love the hosts and staff put into their work. And when the pandemic is over, I'll go back - of course. It's just amazing. PS: in Sept. 2022 there was still "C." (with a few "freedoms"), but it was great on site. The pandemic ended on April 7, 2023 (also in Germany). There are one or two destinations nearby that you can climb. - Text missed (for the first time) in June 2021 or changed in Sept. 2022 and Apr. 2023.
