The Lower Austrian municipality of Melk lies on the right bank of the Danube and, viewed in the direction of flow, is referred to as “the gateway to the Wachau”. Parts of the city, such as Melk Abbey, are part of the Wachau UNESCO World Heritage Site. A visit to the monastery and the small town is definitely worth it. It has enough hotels, restaurants and cafes.
