The ruins of Johannstein Castle are located near Sparbach in Lower Austria (Austria), around eight kilometers west of Mödling at around 450 m above sea level. It is not certain when the hilltop castle was built. It was first given the name "ruin". Since 1809, the ruins and the Sparbach zoo have belonged to the Liechtenstein family. Between 1995 and 2000, the remaining masonry was fundamentally secured and restored. Today, the ruins are almost completely surrounded by the surrounding forest.
