The Capital City State Trail is a paved trail that travels for over nine miles through Capital Springs State Recreation Area (Dane County E-way) and connects with other trails in and around Madison.

Wingra Creek is a picturesque waterway connecting Lake Wingra to Lake Monona through a lovely green corridor. Historically, it was modified for drainage and boat access, but today, it is a quiet route for paddlers and cyclists as it winds along parks and natural springs. The creek is home to diverse wildlife, including turtles, ducks, and fish, making it a great place to escape the city and enjoy spending time outdoors.

From this spot along John Nolan Drive, you can see sweeping views of Lake Monona with the short skyline of Madison the background.

Library Park, in the heart of Belleville, is a hub for community life and historical significance. In 1851, the park was originally a public grazing ground and the site of early Native American trails. It became the location for Belleville's village hall, built in 1894, which also housed a library, firehouse, and jail. Today the park hosts holiday celebrations, fairs, concerts, and free summer movies. Visitors can use the water fountain, picnic tables, and a museum maintained by the Belleville Area Historical Society.

Recognized for its cultural importance, the area was placed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated the Lake Farms Archaeological District in 1980. Explore the park's scenic trails, including the paved Capital City State Trail and Lower Yahara River Trail, suitable for hiking and cycling.

The Lower Yahara River Bike Path offers beautiful views of Madison and its landscapes. At its western end, it connects to the Capital State Trail.

If you want an unbeatable view of the Capitol building dome — not to mention the rest of Madison — it's well worth tying up your bike and popping up to this rooftop terrace on the convention building.
