739-748: Monastery founded by Holy Bishop Pirmin and Bavarian Duke Odilo II. 1470-1487: Gothic church building under Abbot Benedict II Eck. Rich baroque furnishings by the sculptors Hans Waldburger, Meinrad Guggenbichler and Franz Anton Koch. The Roman Catholic Basilica Mondsee is a former collegiate church in structural connection with the building of the former Mondsee Abbey, which is located in the market town of Mondsee in the district of Vöcklabruck in Upper Austria. The church, dedicated to St. Archangel Michael, is a parish church belonging to the deanery of Frankenmarkt in the Diocese of Linz. In 2005, Pope John Paul II elevated the church to the status of a minor basilica. The church building is listed with the entire complex of the former monastery.
