The Thürndl ruins are a listed ruin of a hilltop castle of a medieval fortification dating back to the 13th century.

This privately owned castle is located on Hellbrunner Allee. It doesn't offer any opportunities for a quick rest or refreshment, but it's certainly beautiful to look at. You won't want to miss the view, especially from the Alpine Road!

At 622 meters above sea level, the ruins of Gutrat Castle (also spelled Guetrath) stand perched on a limestone outcrop high above the Salzach Valley. The castle's significance was brief: built in 1198 to protect the salt deposits on the Tuval Mountain, it was left to decay in 1304 after the saltworks dried up. Little of the once imposing complex remains today, but the palace and keep are still clearly visible. A few rusty monsters lurk on the grounds: works of art made from scrap metal. The path from Au is steep and arduous, and finally, the path leads up steel ramps and stairs to the castle.

We climbed up in the dark. With a headlamp, it was no problem at all. From the castle, there was a fantastic view of the illuminated towns.

The “Veste Türndl” is the ruin of a fortress guarding the salt transport routes from the 15th century.

A short detour from the path is worthwhile. However, there is not much left of the ruins. There are also two benches here that invite you to take a rest.
