Main Street은 지브롤터의 중심 쇼핑 거리입니다. 구시가지를 관통하며 대부분 차량 통행이 금지되어 있습니다. 수많은 면세점, 국제 브랜드 및 작은 상점들이 특징입니다. 방문객들은 활기찬 분위기 속에서 편안한 산책, 영국-지중해 스타일, 저렴한 쇼핑을 즐길 수 있습니다.

O'Hara's Battery is located at the highest point of the Rock of Gibraltar. The gun battery was built around 1890 and named after Governor Charles O'Hara. A 9.2-inch gun was intended to defend the Strait of Gibraltar and could theoretically fire as far as the African coast. The installation remained in military use until 1976 and is now a popular viewpoint.

Well, it has a colonial feel, meaning palm trees in a British town center, nothing more. You can buy all sorts of things, from tea and tobacco to spirits and jewelry. However, it's no longer cheaper than in Germany; I compared prices in several shops and usually ended up paying the same or more. Customs regulations also need to be considered. Heligoland is much more interesting in that regard.

Shopping mile

Gibraltar has always been of the utmost strategic importance, but with the entry of Italy into World War II and a powerful Germany already dominating Europe, that importance grew. These tunnels, created by the Royal Engineers and the Canadian Army, were the answer to the ever-growing problem of storage, space and siege accommodation. The entire 16,000-strong garrison could be housed here, along with enough food to survive for 16 months. The entire tunnel network inside the Rock is about 34 miles, 55 kilometers.

In addition to the more traditional shops, visitors to Main Street will find major British and international brands and chain stores, alongside craft and souvenir shops. Popular purchases include cosmetics and perfumes, jewellery, tobacco and spirits, designer glass frames, linens and electronics.
