Leith Harbor is the northernmost of three bays at the head of Stromness Bay on the north coast of South Georgia. The name has been known since at least 1912 and probably goes back to whalers from the company Salvesen & Co. in Leith, Scotland, who built a whaling station at the head of the bay. Numerous animals can be discovered here.

The neo-Gothic church was pre-built in Norway and built in Grytviken between 1912 and 1913 by whalers led by Carl Anton Larsen. The church consists of a single nave leading to a small altar. A small library is attached to the side of the altar. Inside, worshippers (and now visitors) sit on long wooden benches. The dark wooden floorboards of the floor contrast with the white walls and ceiling. The church, one of the southernmost churches in the world, was consecrated on Christmas Day 1913. In 1922, a funeral service for Sir Ernest Shackleton was held in the church before he was buried in the church cemetery along with 64 others. Stromness is a former whaling station. The remains can still be seen. Today, numerous species of animals live here, including king penguins, elephant seals, fur seals and gentoo penguins.

A whaling station existed here from 1909 to 1965. It was the largest on South Georgia. There are still corresponding ruins that are not allowed to be visited.

The Shackleton Valley is a broad valley on the north coast of South Georgia in the South Atlantic. From Stromness Harbour, it runs in a west-northwest direction. Crean Lake is a lake on South Georgia in the South Atlantic. It lies west of the Shackleton Valley in the Bosom region. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 2013. It is named after the Irish able seaman and polar explorer Thomas Crean (1877-1938), who, together with Ernest Shackleton and Frank Worsley, died in 1916 as part of the Endurance Expedition (1914-1917) to save the Expedition members stranded on Elephant Island made the first crossing of South Georgia. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 2013. It is named after Frank Worsley (1872-1943), captain of the Endurance in the Endurance Expedition (1914-1917), who, along with three other expedition members, met the expedition leader Ernest Shackleton in 1916 on the rescue trip with the James Caird from Elephant Island to South Georgia and together with Thomas Crean on the first crossing of South Georgia from King Haakon Bay to Stromness.
