Each of the many small sacred monuments, often erected generations ago out of deep popular piety, proclaims to the faithful observer the timeless message of the death of Jesus Christ, but this is only seemingly the end: for it is also a sign of the overcoming of death through his glorious resurrection, which we Christians celebrate at Easter. At the beginning of this year's Lenten season, Pope Leo XIV, in an address, described the cross of Christ as the "deepest revelation of God's love."

In the Jewish faith, cemeteries are real "resting places for eternity" - quite different from what is usual in Germany (and many other countries), for example, where graves are only "bought" for a limited period of time, say 20 years, and then fall into disrepair. Incidentally, men are asked to wear a head covering when entering a Jewish cemetery - provided it is open to the public - as a sign of respect for our "older brothers in the faith" (quote from Pope John Paul II).

There is a plaque in front of the cemetery in memory of the Jewish community. Thank you to the people who make sure that it is not forgotten!
