12월 28, 2025, Schloss Angenstein
The medieval Angenstein Castle belongs to the Canton of Basel-Stadt and is not open to the public. However, the castle can be viewed quite well from the outside, and rooms can be rented for events. The name means 'narrow stone' and comes from the narrow passageway on the site. Throughout its history, it has been burned down, destroyed, and rebuilt many times. The last fire occurred in 1984. The castle also houses rental apartments, and below it lies the Angenstein fortification – a military historical monument of national importance. Bunkers from the Second World War are visible; the painted facades were only added in the 1960s. The Muggenberg bunker complex is visible opposite.

Rotberg Castle is located on the recently signposted Castle Magic Route 114 and is worth every visit, especially for an overnight stay. Although the castle is a Swiss youth hostel, it can also be rented privately: for weddings, anniversaries, etc. The entire castle is also available with or without catering. It is closed during the winter months. The shared rooms have been recently renovated. For only two or a few people, it is best to contact the castle directly; the tower room for two, for example, is not listed online.

This 13th century castle, perched on the cliffs overlooking Mariastein, seems to come straight out of a fairytale. The building houses a youth hostel. It's a wonderful place to stay just 15 kilometers from the town of Basel.

The Pfeffingen ruins stand on the ridge of the Blauen in Pfeffingen in the canton of Basel-Landschaft in Switzerland. The ruins of the hilltop castle are the remains of the imposing palace and castle, which were once the headquarters of the Counts of Thierstein-Pfeffingen. They are clearly visible from Birseck and Angensteiner-Klus. https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruine_Pfeffingen

6월 2, 2024, Château du Landskron
Landskron is located in Alsace, on French soil. It is one of the most important and impressive castle ruins in the area. Entry is free. There are numerous barbecue areas in and around the castle that are waiting to be lit. From the top of the tower, you get a unique view of Alsace, the Vosges, the Black Forest and the Rhine plain. Anyone who visits Château du Landskron should definitely pay a visit to the Mariastein monastery in "nearby" Switzerland.

The entrance to the Laufental receives far too little attention.

For me, the most beautiful ruin I have ever visited. A very beautiful place that can be combined with wonderful hikes in the Leimental. Perfect for family outings, there are barbecue areas. Entering the ruin is at your own risk. There is a warning about falling rocks, and rightly so.

Although no longer in the original: the restoration for the sake of young people was a great thing!

In 1628, the Protestant nobility was forced to emigrate, and the castle was confiscated. In 1639, Count Dietrichstein acquired Landskron. On October 24, 1648, through the Treaties of Westphalia and Münster, which ended the Thirty Years' War, the Habsburg lands and territories in Alsace passed into the hands of the King of France. In 1812, lightning struck, and the magnificent castle burned to the ground. In 1953, Hans Maresch established a first-class café-restaurant in the remaining ruins. After his death, his sister, Christine Kunz, took over the castle ruins and, through further renovations, brought the restaurant to its current state.

Beautiful castle, which is privately inhabited (rental apartments) and houses a well camouflaged bunker from the second world war. If you look closely, you can see where the fake facades (only painted) are from the street😉

The castle ruins are currently being restored. The tower is closed, as are the metal stairs towards Grenzwächterweg. There are several barbecue areas around the castle ruins that are well used. So pack your barbecue meat and picnic blanket and relax ☀️😉

The castle dates back to the 13th century, has changed hands several times and has been abandoned and uninhabitable since 1645. It fell into disrepair and was often used as a quarry. When work began to rebuild the castle in the autumn of 1933, it was nothing more than a meager and dilapidated ruin. Generous donations provided the financial means to rebuild it in 1934 and 1935 using plans by the castle builder Eugen Probst through a voluntary work service of unemployed young people. On November 27, 1935, the castle was handed over to Swiss youth as a youth castle and youth hostel. Castle researcher Werner Meyer criticizes the fantasy product of the "castle architect" of 1934/35 and states: "The excavation work carried out without scientific supervision and the pseudo-historical restoration have devastated the archaeological findings and obscured the original wall structure."

Angenstein Castle is a medieval castle from the 13th century. Angenstein was always of strategic importance as the "outpost" of Basel and for the control of the Jura region. Over the centuries it went into very different hands, even the Swedes had once occupied the castle. It also burned down several times. In 1984 it burned in the castle for the last time. From 1988 to 1991 it was completely renovated and made habitable. The chapel and some social rooms could also be restored. The hall can be rented for weddings.
