Today a protected natural monument and important local recreation area, it was once a fire-fighting water reservoir, later it served as an ice lake for breweries and as a body of water for fish farming.

Various seating areas are available, and several hiking trails also pass by here (including the Mönsheimer Gipfeltour).

Both the outdoor pool and the football field attract young and old alike on days off. Many beautiful paths offer visitors the opportunity to take a leisurely walk or a long hiking tour. The benches along the paths invite you to rest and linger, and the barbecue area by the lake is ideal for a longer break. The 5 kilometer long forest nature trail is particularly suitable for jogging or walking. Even in winter it won't be boring at Paulinensee, because then you can go on a great sleigh ride on the forest nature trail and then race down the meadow slope behind the outdoor pool.
