Furthermore, the sheep's hooves fill in mouse holes and mole tunnels, which could otherwise lead to dike undermining during floods. The sheep keep the grass short, promoting deeper and stronger root development. This robust root system protects the dike from the force of the water. Soil compaction: the sheep's hooves firm the soil, stabilizing the dike. The compacted turf prevents erosion, and the sheep actively fill in mouse and mole holes. The sheep provide natural landscape maintenance, serving as a cost-effective alternative to mechanical maintenance and ensuring a uniform, dense turf.
