The Hochstaufen (1,771 meters) is a striking rocky mountain and a well-known eye-catcher, rising between Bad Reichenhall, Piding, and Anger (Berchtesgadener Land).
Since 1955, the mountain massif of the Rauschberg has belonged to the almost 100 square kilometer nature reserve of the eastern Chiemgau Alps, which also functions as a bird sanctuary.
