The ruins of Alt-Thierstein Castle are situated on a wooded ridge in the Laufental valley, near the border with the canton of Basel-Landschaft. This medieval castle was likely built in the 12th century by the Counts of Thierstein and served to control important trade routes. Today, remnants of the walls, the keep, and sections of the curtain wall are still visible. The site offers a beautiful view over the Laufental valley. The ruins are freely accessible and a popular destination for hikers and history enthusiasts.

The bridge between Albbruck and Schwaderloch not only connects Germany with Switzerland, but is also a quiet, beautiful spot on the Rhine, perfect for a break or a change of perspective on your tour. From here, you have a sweeping view upstream and downstream, of the Leibstadt nuclear power plant, the floodplain landscape, and the quiet activity along the water. Cyclists and walkers in particular use the bridge for cross-border tours, as well-maintained paths run along both sides of the Rhine. Tip: If you're traveling in the summer, you should take a short break on the Swiss bank—there are always small, idyllic spots right by the water. And on the German side, the town center of Albbruck is perfect for a cozy stop.

This isn't Bad Säckingen, but Laufenburg, Aargau. The old town is highly recommended. The charming alleys with many renovated houses are very beautiful. The old castle with its church and its magnificent view are also worth a visit. Plan enough time. I also recommend crossing to the other side of the river and visiting the old town on the German side, with its fine restaurants and famous ice cream parlor. Have fun!

Wonderful view in a very beautiful location. There are tables and buckets for a picnic. It has a special atmosphere if you go along with it. The board with explanations of the history is very clearly written.
