The Gallerturm also served the imperial city as a powder depot. — When the construction of the fortifications on the Gallerhöhe began in 1587, Überlingen was likely under time pressure, as even the girls and boys were recruited to weave the fortifications. In 1534, the women's monastery of St. Gallus was relocated from the Gallerberg to the Fischerhäuservorstadt. It had to make way for the expanded fortifications. This monastery has been documented since 1300, when its inhabitants adopted the Franciscan rule. The sisters of the Galler monastery secured their existence by operating a girls' school. The Gallerturm and Gallerschanze were largely spared enemy action during the Swedish siege of 1634, as the fighting was concentrated in the east and north of the city. However, the tower provided the backdrop for the unforgettable Überlingen Swedish Games, marking the 300th anniversary of that siege in 1934. The Society of Art Lovers of Überlingen now has its home in the Gallerturm.

The Gallerturm towers more than 30 meters high on a rocky spur high above the Gallergraben. The defense tower is named after a convent dedicated to St. Gallus and had to give way to the new fortifications in 1534. Gallus was significantly involved in the Christianization of the Lake Constance area. The monastery and city of St. Gallen go back to him.

The castle ruin Alter Turm von Aach is the ruin of a ring castle on the edge of the Eigeltinger valley on a 35 by 30 meter plateau at 539 meters above sea level. NHN on the northeastern edge, above the Aachtopf, the city of Aach in the Baden-Württemberg district of Konstanz in Germany. A C14 dating of a piece of charcoal from the infill masonry carried out by the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences (University of Heidelberg) in 2004 gave a calibrated date of construction between 990 and 1020 AD. This finding - together with the ceramics found - identify the castle as one of the early castles of the 11th century. Due to the early departure of the castle in the middle of the 12th century, it was never built over again. As a result, unlike other castles that were later built over, the remains have been preserved in their original state. This fact makes the castle ruins so unique.
