The four of us had an absolutely fantastic meal there. Both the fish and meat dishes were cooked to perfection. The starters and desserts were also very tasty. All Demeter-certified. It's not exactly cheap, but it was incredibly good.

Lake Erlach is currently the last refuge for amphibians in the Oberwald. The previously declining amphibian population was counteracted by the targeted design of the water body. Here they find a habitat that the floodplain landscape of the Rhine had offered them since time immemorial, before human cultivation destroyed it.

From here, you can easily observe birds without disturbing them. Beautiful view over the lake.

Donated in 1929 by the Karlsruhe merchant Carl Wilhelm Schöpf (1869 - 1930) for the Karlsruhe Black Forest Association on the occasion of his 15-year membership in 1905. The refuge is in the district of Schluttenbach near the Rimmelsbacher Hof and on the Richard-Massinger-Weg. The Erlachsee is now completely fenced off as a nature reserve. You can only get to the lake at the observation point. From here you can watch the hustle and bustle on the lake. The origin of the lake (the A5) is noticeable: The quarry lake Erlachsee was created by dredging in the 1930s for the construction of the Reichsautobahn. In the years 1969 and 1970, gravel was mined again in the area in the course of the construction work on the southern bypass. The area was then recultivated under nature conservation aspects.
