The charcoal burner, located on the federal highway 81 between Blankenburg and Hasselfelde, is one of the few craft businesses of this kind still in operation in Germany. Anyone who approaches the Harzköhlerei Stemberghaus (500 m above sea level) can smell the aromatic smoke of the charcoal pile in their nose from a distance. In addition to the charcoal burner, there is a rustic, Harz-typical gastronomy in the "Köhlerhütte".
