The highest elevation of the Gehrenberg is hidden in the middle of the forest. According to the unspectacular sign, it is exactly 754.3 meters. Several root trails lead to the small clearing, but easy to drive on.

The church of St. Mary, known as the "Birnau Basilica", stands on the northern shore of Lake Constance in the Birnau district of the 7,000-inhabitant resort town of Uhldingen-Mühlhofen. The Roman Catholic Birnau Basilica is one of the most important baroque pilgrimage churches in the region.
