옛날 비스는 구릉 지대에 발달했는데, 약 150년 전까지 계곡 바닥에 홍수가 계속 발생했기 때문입니다. 론강과 비스파강은 정비되고 확장 및 제방 공사가 이루어졌습니다. 이로 인해 모든 지역이 건설에 자유로워졌습니다. 언덕에 건물을 지은 또 다른 이유는 상부 발레 지역에 대한 전쟁의 압력이었습니다. 환형 성벽이 있는 언덕에서는 더 잘 방어할 수 있었습니다. 13세기와 14세기에 여러 차례의 화재와 1518년의 대화재로 비스프 거의 전체가 파괴되었습니다. 따라서 1518년 이전에 지어진 건물은 몇 채만 찾아볼 수 있습니다.

The Niwärchstollen tunnel is 1.6 km long. It offers a (dark!) alternative to hiking the partially exposed path along the rocky slopes of the Baltschieder Valley, which requires surefootedness and a good head for heights.

The St. Jodern Education Center offers bikers optimal infrastructure: The center has 37 single/double rooms and four shared rooms, ideal for bike trips with friends, in a group, or as a solo traveler. The lockable garage is large enough to store approximately 30 bicycles. A service station is also available for minor bike repairs. A bike wash station is available for cleaning bikes. High above the town of Visp lies Visperterminen, with its stunning views. The village was already settled in prehistoric times, and in 1715, four villages merged to form the present municipality. A special feature of Visperterminen are its vineyards: On terraces built of dry-stone walls, vines are cultivated at elevations of over 1,100 meters, making Visperterminen the highest vineyards in Europe. Heida is the name given to the white wine made from the Savagnin grape.
