Excellent natural swimming pool directly above St. Märgen - the water is guaranteed to be refreshing even in the hottest summer months.

St. Märgen is a typical Black Forest community at an altitude of 900-1,100 m. The church of St. Märgen can be seen from far away. A good starting point for hikes to the Zweribach and Hirschbach waterfalls.

The water is relatively cold, but very pleasant after or during a tour. Bikes are not allowed in and there is an entrance fee.

A wooden boardwalk has been built through the entire moor to put as little strain on the moor as possible. There are a few benches on the path where you can take a rest.

The cake at the country women's café is highly recommended. It has lovely outdoor seating and is conveniently located near the bus stop.

The history of the place is closely linked to the history of the monastery of St. Märgen. From 1115 to 1118, Count Bruno von Haigerloch-Wiesneck, chancellor of Heinrich V and Strasbourg cathedral provost, built the Augustinian monastery of Maria-Zell in the Black Forest as a competitor to the nearby monastery of St. Peter in the Black Forest. In the 1460s, due to continued difficulties, the monks moved to the Augustinian Canons' Monastery of All Saints in Freiburg im Breisgau. After his demise, the monastery was revived and from 1716 a baroque monastery church with two towers and new convent buildings were erected. A Silbermann organ was installed in the church. In 1806 the monastery was finally dissolved in the course of secularization; the organ survived, but only until the church fire caused by lightning in 1911.
