Beautiful and very large medieval castle ruins – clearly visible from afar as a landmark above the town of Nagold. Accessible via various hiking trails through the forest surrounding the Schlossberg. Great views of the Heckengäu, the Black Forest, and, in good weather, even the Swabian Alb. Served on weekends in the summer. Regular events are also held.

An imposing shield wall protected the building from attacks. The castle is now privately owned and cannot be visited. But it is a beautiful complex even from the outside.

Complex with keep, shield wall and moat, the palace was probably attached to the shield wall, in the northeast of the complex there are remains of a gate. Preserved: keep, remains of the shield wall. Very nice way up to Zavelstein Castle

The courtyard is also not open to the public.

After the large trees and bushes have been trimmed, you have a great view over the whole of Nagold. However, you cannot see the Nagold River from up here.

The keep offers a beautiful view of the Kleinenztal and behind the castle a small rest area invites you to linger.

Hornbach (who doesn't think of the "Hornberger Shooting"?). Note the geographic location and the protective wall in front of the castle, which "hailed" the trajectory of the projectiles from the mountain to potential attackers :-)
