The castle was built around 1322 by the Counts of Freiburg and destroyed in 1609. Other owners were the Lords of Neuenstein. Only a few remains of the castle walls can be seen. Tradition also speaks of another castle of the same name; this castle of Alt-Neuenstein could have stood to the right of the Rench above the town of Hubacker. It was probably the ancestral castle of the Lords of Neuenstein, who were first mentioned in 1123. Very nice photo motifs in the castle and on the tower you have beautiful views of the Rhine plain and as far as the Vosges. The staircase in the tower is steep and narrow.
