Ilsenburg Abbey (St. Peter and Paul) is a former Benedictine abbey in the town of Ilsenburg. The monastery complex dates back to the 11th and 12th centuries. The owner of the monastery church has been the city of Ilsenburg since 1974, which had the sacred building extensively restored. Breite Straße leads from the Breite Tor to the market. There are many half-timbered houses there. The Broad Gate was the main gate of the city. The Ulrichsche Garten is also located on Breite Straße, a small oasis of calm surrounded by thick old walls.
