A very well-maintained park; today I was lucky and was able to observe two free-roaming peacocks there.

Palace Park - Ambras Castle, Innsbruck During the lifetime of Archduke Ferdinand II, Ambras Castle included a large forest area. The grounds, which slope steeply to the east and today, with their cliffs, ravines, bridges, and an artificial waterfall, are reminiscent of their original state, served as a game park. The palace also boasted a richly landscaped park, completed in 1574, with fish ponds, bird aviaries, and private garden houses in the pleasure gardens. Remaining features from this period include the spacious Bacchus Grotto, carved into the rock, where the Archduke's guests were once welcomed with the famous Ambras drinking games, as well as a stair tower in the Keuchengarten, the former structure of which has been partially reconstructed. The hydroelectric "circulating table" and the ball game house south of the Spanish Hall are no longer preserved. Under Archduke Karl Ludwig, who used Ambras Castle as a summer residence, the western part of the park was transformed into a landscaped garden starting in 1855, and the Keuchengarten received a swimming pool. 10월 16, 2024, Schloss Matrei Trautson
Trautson Castle, which towers over Matrei, dates back to the 13th century and was once known as the "Pearl of the Wipptal". Towards the end of World War II, the castle was almost completely destroyed in a bombing raid. It has since been restored and is beautiful to look at.

6월 13, 2024, Freundsberg Castle and Museum
Freundsberg Castle is located on a steep hill south of Schwaz. It was built around 1150 AD as the ancestral home of the Knights of Freundsberg. Initially there was only a residential tower, in which parts of the original frescoes are still visible, but when Duke Sigismund the Rich acquired the castle and court in the 15th century, he had it converted into a hunting lodge. The beautiful castle church from the late Renaissance was only added between 1634 and 1637. The city of Schwaz has owned the complex since 1812 and had the local museum established in the castle tower in 1948: it offers an interesting insight into the cultural and economic development of the silver city. On the top floor, the old tower apartment takes you back to the time of the sovereign Duke Sigmund.

8월 3, 2023, Fügen Castle
Schloss Fügen is recognizable by the four wings with the two turrets, the marble arched portal and the large courtyard of the castle. The oldest parts date back to the middle of the 16th century, when Georg von Keutschach from Carinthia had a tower house built on this site. The arrow slits and lancet door are still visible. At the beginning of the 18th century, the old walls were converted into a baroque palace. Fügen Castle became famous in 1822, during a conference between Emperor Francis I. and Tsar Nikolaus I., when the Christmas carol "Silent Night, Holy Night" was first performed on this site by the Rainer Choir. The Christmas carol became famous all over the world. Today, the municipality of Fügen owns the castle which is used for cultural events.

The remains of the ruins are accessible and the view of the Inn Valley is great. The circular hiking trail leads through the ruins. You can also grill with an open fire, you just have to register it.

11월 10, 2021, Schloss Matrei Trautson
Starting from the Roman road station Matreyum, three castles were built to protect Brennerstrasse in the Middle Ages. One (and the youngest) of these was Trautson Castle, built in 1221, which, in contrast to the other two castles Raspenbühel and Vogelbühel, still exists today. It should represent the predominance of the Counts of Tyrol over the Wipptal over the Counts of Andechs. With the construction of the Brennerbahn in 1868 and the blasting of the tunnel through the castle hill, the castle suffered major damage. After major restorations, it was destroyed by aerial bombs on April 2, 1945, except for the chaplaincy and parts of the keep. The bombs were supposed to interrupt the Brenner railway.

5월 3, 2021, Burg Arnholz
Arnholz Castle consists of the built-up remains of a hilltop castle, which was first mentioned in 1257. In the eastern part of the building there are therefore almost two meter thick walls made of the old substance. There is a three-story bastion tower below the current house. The facility is one of the so-called Tyrolean fortifications. It is privately owned and can only be viewed from the outside.
