The Calverbühl (also Calver Bühl, formerly Karpfenbühl) is a striking 509 m above sea level elevation south of Dettingen an der Erms in the district of Reutlingen. On the summit of the Calverbühl there is a linden tree that is clearly visible from afar. Until the Reformation in 1534 there was a chapel up here. The Calverbühl Chapel was a regular destination for the people of Dettingen on St. Mark's Day (April 25th) for a pilgrimage. The Calverbühl is a small volcanic vent of the Swabian Volcano. The rock is characterized by numerous lapilli. Geophysical measurements have shown that a strong geomagnetic anomaly occurs at the Calverbühl, which is caused by the ferromagnetic minerals (especially magnetite) present within the volcanic rock. In a recent publication, Otto Mäussnest mentions that the magnetism of the Calverbühl was increased by lightning strikes. The Calverbühl with the linden tree on the summit and the semi-dry grassland on the slopes is a protected natural monument and is also protected as a geotope under the name Calverbühl, about 1000 m south of Dettingen a. d. Anyone who climbs the stairs will be rewarded with a beautiful all-round view. Not for those with a head for heights, because you always have a view downwards through the grid floor 🫣. For everyone else, the short climb is worth it.

The food was delicious😋. Very nice staff👍. When the temperatures are a little colder, you can also make yourself comfortable in the hiking home. Otherwise there is covered seating opposite.

The Hursch tower is an observation tower from which the military exercises from the Münsingen military training area were controlled and observed. The old command status is still preserved above. From the tower you have a great view of the Alb and beyond. A fee of EUR 1 is to be expected. Only a maximum of 10 people are allowed to stay on the tower at the same time.

The Achalm (707 m) is one of the most important landmarks in Reutlingen, along with the Marienkirche and the Tübinger Tor. Unfortunately, only a few remains of the walls of the former castle and today's lookout tower, built around 1838 on the foundations of the former keep, have survived.
