The modern, spacious hiking lodge was built between 1972 and 1975 by the Eningen unter Achalm local group under the leadership of its chairman, Hans Schenk, not far from the Swabian Alb North Rim Trail and close to the Albtrauf ridge. The hiking lodge is situated in a diverse landscape on the Alb plateau, with forests, meadows, and tree-lined avenues. A barbecue area and playground were set up directly next to the hiking lodge. A game reserve and a large playground with several barbecue areas are nearby.

At 880.8 meters above sea level, the Bolberg is the highest point in the Reutlingen district. From here, you can also enjoy a fantastic panoramic view along the Albtrauf, the area before the Swabian Alb, as well as the Schönbuch and the foothills of the Northern Black Forest.

Outside of opening hours, non-alcoholic drinks are available in a refrigerator next to the door. Exemplary: A small hut with various garbage bins is available for waste separation. A fire escape is currently being installed at the back of the front wall for safety reasons.

The tower is practically always open. Just to the left of the entrance is a box where you can pay one euro per person for the climb. Just seeing the ingenious wooden structure is worth the euro. At a height of 32 meters, you can slide up the wooden enclosure on all four sides to enjoy the magnificent view. A metal plate attached to the ledge helps you orient yourself as to what is where. Please close all hatches when leaving.

There are also overnight accommodations here (30 beds). This is a good opportunity, especially for school classes, to use the hut as a school camp, for example.

The food was delicious😋. Very nice staff👍. When the temperatures are a little colder, you can also make yourself comfortable in the hiking home. Otherwise there is covered seating opposite.

There's everything here. Hut with barbecue area and two large table sets not far from the Wackerstein viewing rock.
