The ore railway line once supplied iron ore to the blast furnaces of Schalker and Bochumer Verein. In 2002, it was one of the first disused railway lines to be converted into cycling and hiking trails by the Ruhr Regional Association (RVR). Today, the line is one of the most popular tourist cycle paths in the Ruhr metropolis.

Very pleasant route, only green areas on the right and left

Old buildings have been well integrated into the overall picture. The path is wide enough for all road users.

The canal cycle path, the Emscherpark cycle path and the "shortcut" in between (not recommended anyway, as it would lead to a staircase) are not passable around the A43 due to long-term construction sites. The official recommendation via Forellenstrasse/Rottstrasse (https://www.autobahn.de/die-autobahn/verkehrsmeldungen/detail/a43-radweg-unter-der-bruecke-ueber-den-rhein-herne-kanal-in-herne-sperrt ) and the obvious alternative route via Hochlarmarkstrasse are definitely unsuitable for tours with children and are no fun even for old hands. At the moment (March 2024) I would completely advise against a tour along the Rhine-Herne Canal on the section that crosses the A43.

The bridge actually crosses the Goldhammer Bach and only flows in a few hundred meters further the Hülser Bach.

The bridge is easy to drive alone. But be careful when approaching oncoming traffic and when overtaking.
