The architect Joseph Effner built the Badenburg between 1718 and 1721 as a pleasure palace for Elector Max Emanuel (r. 1679-1726). In addition to the richly decorated ballroom and a small living apartment, the magnificent bathing hall is the main attraction. The decoration with paintings and stucco takes up the theme of the garden and the water. The bathing palace in the Nymphenburg Palace Park, unique in its form, was often the scene of lavish courtly celebrations.
