Hiking around Hørret skov offers a tranquil experience within a designated "stilleskov" (quiet forest) south of Aarhus, Denmark. The area is characterized by a diverse deciduous forest, primarily beech, oak, ash, and sycamore maple, spanning approximately 65 hectares. Several small streams, including Fiskebækken and Giber Å, weave through the area, alongside open meadows like Uller Eng and Hørret Enge, known for their rich plant life. Ancient woodlands contribute to the varied terrain, with some parts remaining untouched for years.

Scattered throughout the forest, you will find a number of archaeological monuments. Among other things you can see a well-preserved long barrow, which was built as a burial mound in the Neolithic period.

Here at the edge of the forest, you have a beautiful view of the fields and meadows. A little further east, you will come across archaeological sites.

Here you can hike or ride on well-maintained trails, observe red deer with a bit of luck, and see grazing cattle in the open meadow landscape in summer. You will also come across archaeological remains in the forest, including a well-preserved grave from the Neolithic period.
