Unfortunately, there's no sign anywhere indicating that there's a shooting range diagonally across the parking lot. We were looking forward to a hike in a quiet nature reserve. The result was a dog that was already nervous, but was distraught, because they were shooting clay pigeons for several hours (the noise was inevitably loud, all the way to the castle and in the surrounding area). A real shame!

Large and old ash trees are a rare sight in Denmark because ash disease is caused by a fungus that causes the upper branches of the trees to die and the leaves to fall off. Unfortunately, many ash trees and stands are affected by this fungus. Fortunately, this tree does not appear to be affected by the fungus. In 2019, this tree was designated a "Tree of Life," which means it is protected and may not be felled for production. We would therefore like to ask you to help us protect the ash tree by not stepping on the fence, climbing the tree, or poking at it. This way, the ash tree will hopefully remain standing for many years to come and bring joy to many people.

As you begin or conclude your hike around the Kalø area, you can enjoy this view of Kaløvig Castle from the Kalø Slotscafé. This delightful café offers you a perfect and easily accessible vantage point to soak in the iconic sight of the 700-year-old Kalø Castle Ruin. From your comfortable spot, you'll witness the majestic medieval fortress standing proudly on its small peninsula, connected to the mainland by Denmark's longest medieval paved road—all framed by the tranquil waters of Kalø Vig.

From the tower of the Kalø castle ruins, which are located on the island of the same name, you have an excellent panoramic view. To enjoy the view, you just have to climb the tower, which is open all year round, via the installed steel staircase.

Nice, we thought we would take our dog in the buggy, but the paths didn't allow it. He ended up going in the backpack, and he walked back by himself, although it was difficult for him, because of his brace. So less accessible for wheelchairs and buggies
