The harbour is the heart of Nysted. Here you can feel the pulse of life. You are in the middle of the city and in nature. Nysted Harbour is located in the interior of Nysted Nor with a wonderful view over the Fehmarnbelt, the offshore wind farm on Rødsand, the old provincial town and Ålholm Castle. The harbour is on the south coast of Lolland. With NW and N winds, low tide is up to 1.5 m. In Nysted, with its old, lovingly preserved houses, you can feel the history and be filled with new energy. If you want to see something of the surrounding area, a bicycle is the best option. Bus: Line 730 Nysted - Nykøbing Falster

Søholt Castle's first named owner was Morten Venstermand, who expanded his property in the area surrounding the newly founded manor house around 1550. Søholt was badly damaged during the Swedish Wars (1657–1660). The current main building dates from 1804. The castle is famous for its baroque garden, which is open to visitors (entrance fee 20 kroner, money box at the open main gate). The first garden was laid out here in the 1690s. The orangery is also a must-see in the magnificent grounds; the lovingly decorated glasshouse can be booked for special occasions. The baroque garden is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Café Søholt only in the summer months (June–August, Fri–Sun, 12 p.m.–4 p.m.). www.soeholt.nu

Beautiful old brick building in the center of Nysted

Cozy harbor with a small tourist information and a restaurant. Otherwise very idyllic location 😉

Nysted Town Hall was built in 1839 and enlarged in 1920. Today it is a two-story building with a three-part facade and a balcony in the middle. The glockenspiel, which chimes on the hour, has been around since 1987 and was donated by a former mayor of the city. A picturesque detail is the dial decorated with the coat of arms of the city. The town hall is currently used for exhibitions.

After his death, Emil Aarestrup became one of the most admired Danish poets around 1850. During his lifetime he was more concerned with other things. He was a general practitioner in Nysted from 1827-1838. He was involved in the life of the city and the surrounding area, e.g. he was a member of the municipal council. After that he moved to Sakskøbing and later became a medical officer in Odense.
