Kongelunden on Amager is a versatile destination for nature lovers, cyclists, and walkers. The mix of 150-year-old oaks, rare plants, and over 300 different bird species makes the forest a truly special experience. The forest was planted starting in 1818, after Amager had been completely treeless since the Swedish wars of the 17th century. Large-scale reforestation with oaks followed in 1830, later joined by chestnut trees, walnut trees, and a variety of wild plants such as wild garlic, elderberry, and mirabelle plums. Wildlife ranges from pheasants and deer to foxes, rare insects, and migratory birds in the spring.
