Bever is a charming village in the Upper Engadine, known for its elegant Engadine-style houses, adorned with sgraffito and characteristic bay windows. Nestled in a flat valley, it is surrounded by vast meadows and forests, and crossed by the river of the same name. There is now a small "skywalk" above the gorge, from where you can get a good view into the depths.

The funicular railway consists of two carriages connected by a wire rope that passes over a turntable at the top station. The downhill carriage pulls the uphill carriage with minimal additional energy consumption. The two carriages meet halfway along the route, which is why the single-track line has been double-tracked for a short section.
