Fort X is located in the Gremberger Grove. One of the four forts on the right bank of the Rhine in the Cologne fortress ring. The Gremberger Wäldchen is home to, among other things, what is known to be Cologne's oldest tree - a red beech from the early 18th century. You can also find oaks, birches and wild cherries here. Incidentally, the fact that it sometimes looks a bit mixed up in the Gremberger grove is intentional and in no way indicates that the forest is in poor condition. But on the contrary! The forest is natural and that means, for example, that fallen trees are not removed, but left to rot. In this way, the forest can renew itself again and again and is a completely intact ecosystem. The trees are also home to a diverse range of birds, including the golden cockerel and the willow tit. If you listen carefully, you can also hear jays, great tits, nuthatches, stock pigeons, middle woodpeckers, forest owls and tawny owls sing.

As a memorial to the many dead, such memorials or war memorials are still very important today. "Now, Lord, let your servant go in peace, as you said." However, the people who are commemorated here did not divorce in peace, but became victims of war and tyranny.
