🚴‍♂️ The Hilleshagen-Klim via Mechelen is a typical South Limburg climb: undulating, scenic, and with good asphalt – perfect for a relaxed yet sporty road bike ride. 📍 Key climb data Length: approx. 2.2 km Elevation gain: around 85 m Average gradient: about 3.9% Maximum gradient: up to 7% Route: Start in Mechelen → Hilleshagerweg → towards Hilleshagen 🧭 Character & route Wide road with bike lanes, well-maintained and light traffic Scenic: open fields, rolling hills, and the occasional ice cream stand along the trail The climb isn't extreme, but its length and undulating profile make it quite challenging.

Kinzweiler is an ancient parish. The church and parish were already listed in the Liber valoris of 1308. Until the French Revolution, the lords of Kinzweiler Castle held the right of collation. The church mentioned in the Liber valoris was replaced by a new building in the 15th century. The Reformation briefly gained a foothold in Kinzweiler, so that only Lutheran services were held there between 1616 and 1628. After the Protestants had built their own church, St. Blaise's was returned to the Catholics. In the 17th century, the nave was renovated in Baroque style. In 1859, the church was extended eastward in the Gothic Revival style. The church was damaged during World War II. The damage was repaired by 1946. During the 1960s, the church became too small for the rapidly growing congregation, so an extension was planned. In 1969, the old nave was demolished and the present nave was built in its place. The old 15th-century tower and the neo-Gothic choir were preserved. The plans for this renovation were provided by architect Heinz Kaldenbach.
